TORONTO -- An early morning fire has destroyed a seafood plant in west-end Toronto.
Officials say the fire broke out just after 7 a.m. Saturday (near Kipling Avenue and Bloor) and more than 50 firefighters battled to get the flames under control as heavy smoke drifted across a nearby expressway.
Division fire commander Bob O'Hallarn says by mid-morning, four sections of the building had collapsed.
He says crews are expected to be on the scene for most of the day to ensure the fire is out and the building is safe.
The fire occurred outside of normal business hours and there's no word on a possible cause. No injuries were reported.
Nearby streets were closed off while firefighters fought the blaze and several nearby industrial units were evacuated by police shortly after emergency crews arrived.
